Round Midnight (SLT)

My SL friend and fellow SLU denizen Robert Jung gave me a compliment and an unintentional gift a few nights ago. We ran into each other at the SLU Clubhouse and he said he'd visited the Photogenix Gallery and that he liked our work. He then said one of my photos reminded him of the work of Jack Vettriano, the Scottish painter of intimate scenes between men and woman. I'd never heard of him, though I had seen his "The Singing Butler".

Well, that set me off. Soon I was devouring all Vettriano's works and decided I would start using his arrangements for my own pics, as an homage to a theme I have long enjoyed - men and woman connecting, not connecting, interlocked in ways that suggest romantic and sexual tension.

So here's the first in that series, with more to come. Vettriano calls his "Round Midnight", so I call this "Round Midnight SLT"

This is another "set piece". I created the woman's pose, the background behind the window, the set, etc. Then the only post work was the masking and highlight of the man's face and body, a few brushstrokes to fix the inevitable problems with the SL avatar mesh on the woman's body, and adding a curlicue of smoke from the cigarette.

Here's a poster of the Vettriano original, "Round Midnight" for comparison. I loved the composition most of all, but I also tried to match some of the ambiance he created in what I believe to be a sensuous masterpiece.

I'll be trying more of his compositions later - this is the first in a series. I just wanted to thank Robert and share what we at Photogenix are trying to do with virtual world photography - capturing the beauty of Second Life.
